The recent inauguration of the new airport in Northern Cyprus sparked initial skepticism regarding its necessity, with some questioning whether the existing airport could suffice for a few more years. However, recent statistics published by kibris.io unequivocally dispel these doubts. From August 2023 to February 2024 alone, there was a significant surge in both passenger traffic and incoming flights, effectively silencing skeptics.

During this seven-month period, the number of arriving aircraft increased by 24% compared to the same timeframe the previous year. Specifically, while 13,524 aircraft were recorded from August 2022 to February 2023, this figure skyrocketed to 16,747 aircraft from August 2023 to February 2024, as reported by the airport authority.

Even more remarkable was the 32% rise in passenger numbers, climbing from 1,977,925 in the period spanning August 2022 to February 2023 to an impressive 2,607,920 from August 2023 to February 2024.

These statistics undeniably illustrate the burgeoning status of Northern Cyprus as a premier tourist destination, with a clear trajectory towards future growth. A closer examination of individual months further underscores this positive trend.

For instance, in August 2022, 299,561 passengers arrived at Ercan Airport, while in August 2023, this number surged to 385,223, marking a 29% increase. Similarly, February 2023 saw 226,108 arriving passengers, which escalated to 354,960 in February 2024, representing an even more substantial 57% rise.

This trend not only solidifies Northern Cyprus’s status as a sought-after destination but also reflects the concerted efforts of various airlines, such as Turkish Airlines, Anadolu Jet (now AJet), Pegasus Airlines, and FlyKibris, in promoting accessibility to the region. These carriers have facilitated convenient travel routes from Germany and other European countries, with Ercan Airport serving as a pivotal hub.

Furthermore, Northern Cyprus’s appeal extends beyond tourism, presenting lucrative opportunities for investors and property developers.

In essence, Northern Cyprus’s burgeoning tourism sector and investment potential signify a promising future, underpinned by strategic initiatives and a commitment to excellence.
